Latest F1 secrets kept from Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton tested McLaren Research and Development parts as Indian Grand Prix practice took place on Friday. However, as the 2008 World Champion is switching to the Mercedes factory team next year, he was not allowed to know specifically what was being run on the car. He and Jenson Button ended the day in sixth and seventh places.

“It was quite a positive day – on my side of the garage, at least," said Hamilton, choosing not to discuss the new components. “The car felt quite good, but to get the best from the tires on each lap wasn’t so easy. We’re not quite quick enough yet, but tire durability and our long-run pace both looked quite good. In fact, I was very happy with the long run. If we continue in that direction, we’ll hopefully be strong in the race.

“I think we’re probably quick enough to qualify third or fourth fastest at the moment but, to go for pole, we’re going to really need to push hard in our development work tonight. It looks like it’ll be another close race."

During the afternoon period, Hamilton was informed by Race Engineer Andy Latham that his ‘pace is good’ for the fuel load he was carrying during the session.
