Former HRT reserve driver Ma Qing Hua will get behind the wheel of a GP2 car at the Circuito de Jerez later this week, having secured a test outing with Caterham Racing.

After becoming the first ever Chinese driver to compete in an official Formula 1 session during practice for the 2012 Italian Grand Prix, the 24-year-old made three more Friday outings. He is now assessing the possibility of joining the feeder series.

"I am looking forward to testing with Caterham Racing in Jerez next week," Ma said of his maiden GP2 experience. "This will be my first time in a GP2 car and it is a great opportunity for me to learn the car and work with such a professional team."

Ma is set to test alongside Sergio Canamasas this week, the latter returning after contesting the final five rounds of the 2012 GP2 season with Venezuela GP Lazarus.

"I am very happy to test with Caterham Racing in Jerez and I am looking forward to it," he explained. "My target will be to develop the car and to show good performance."

The opening GP2 test takes place at Jerez from 26-28 February, before the teams head north to the Circuit de Catalunya for the second gathering from 5-7 March.
