Vickers tops final Sprint Cup practice

Brian Vickers, in his last Sprint Cup race for a month in the Michael Waltrip Racing car he shares with Mark Martin, had the fastest speed in Saturday's final practice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Vickers posted a lap of 133.417 mph on the 1.058-mile flat oval. He was one of five drivers — along with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth, Clint Bowyer and Jimmie Johnson — fasters than 133 mph.

Vickers also had the top 10-lap average speed at 132.16 mph, followed by Bowyer, Earnhardt, Jamie McMurray and Kasey Kahne.

It wasn't all good for McMurray. The Earnhardt Ganassi Racing driver spun and damaged the rear of his car in that final practice. The team was trying to repair the car Saturday afternoon in order to keep its starting spot of 11th.

Brad Keselowski, who will start from the pole Sunday in the Camping World RV Sales 301, was 21st overall in the final practice. Danica Patrick, who will be the first woman to compete in a Cup race at New Hampshire, was 28th.

The race Sunday is scheduled for 301 laps (1 p.m.).
