Trans Am moves to Saturday feature at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
Trans Am Series will run Saturday May 17 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park |
Miami, Fla. February 6, 2014– In an early adjustment to the 2014 Trans Am Championship, the Trans Am Series is moving Round Four at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park up a day to Saturday May 17.
The move will see Trans Am assume the featured spot on Saturday as a part of the annual Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend at the Canadian track. Now, Trans Am will race mid-afternoon on the 17th as opposed to in the evening on the 18th.
“When event promoters offered us the Saturday feature, we simply could not turn it down," said John Clagett, President of The Trans Am Race Company. “The new time slot will increase exposure for the Series and allow us to assist Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in putting on a show that truly endures for the whole weekend. Our competitors are excited at the prospect, and we are ready to show off the impact Trans Am can make as a Saturday’s feature event."
Trans Am has raced at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park every year since 2009, and the northern pilgrimage has become a modern day Trans Am tradition.
“Everyone at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park has always been open and dedicated to our efforts here at Trans Am," continued Clagett. “We’re excited about the opportunity and ready to put on a show as only Trans Am can."
Last year’s race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park saw 28 cars take to the track and featured hotly contested victories by Doug Peterson and Tony Buffomante in TA and TA2—a spectacle that Trans Am expects to see outdone this year.
“We fully expect to see both our entries and quality of racing increase again this year," said Clagett. “We’ve seen every indication that Trans Am’s growth is set to continue throughout the 2014 season, and the race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park should be no different."
The adjusted schedule will see Trans Am first take to the track on Thursday May 15 for test sessions and an official practice. Friday will consist of another practice session and qualifying in preparation for the 100-mile sprint format Trans Am race on Saturday, May 17.
