Alonso to confirm future plans ‘very soon’

Like 2007 above, Fernando Alonso will soon be back racing for Ron Dennis at McLaren

Fernando Alonso says he will be able to announce his future plans "very soon", after completing his final race with Ferrari.

Alonso's anticipated Ferrari exit was finally made official earlier in the week, followed by confirmation of Sebastian Vettel's arrival from Red Bull.

The Spaniard has been linked with a return to McLaren, which has delayed an announcement over its 2015 line-up until next month.

"It was a nice experience [at Ferrari] but I'm looking for better results," Alonso reflected, after narrowly beating team-mate Kimi Räikkönen to ninth in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

"You will find out very soon where I will be driving – you are close!"

Alonso, who wore a special helmet decorated with the signatures of Ferrari team members at the Yas Marina Circuit, says it was his dream to claim a farewell podium finish.

"You want to be on the podium at least, but I knew it would be tough," Alonso commented.

"It summarizes our season a little bit. It's mixed feelings leaving Ferrari. There are great people here."

Although he shared Alonso's frustration over a challenging 2014 season, Räikkönen has "absolute faith" that Ferrari can return to winning ways.

"The car handled well and I had no particular problem, but today we lacked the speed we needed to attack," said Räikkönen.

"All season we have faced a series of difficulties which we put a lot of effort into solving and we learned a lot from that.

"We know which direction we need to work in to be competitive as soon as possible and I have absolute faith in the team."
