E.J. Viso wins Stadium Super Trucks race in Long Beach
Former IndyCar racer E.J. Viso pulled away from the field to win the Speed Energy Formula Of-Road Stadium Super Trucks 10-lap race, a prelude to the IndyCar at the 41st annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday.
Eleven trucks were bunched up on the restart after the competition yellow midway through the race. Viso won by 5.2066 seconds with points leader and top qualifier Sheldon Creed second and series founder Robby Gordon third.
"It was definitely challenging and a lot of fun," Viso said. "Sheldon is super fast."
The trucks started in reverse order of their qualifying speed, Creed starting in the No. 13 spot. They had to negotiate three jumps on the 1.968-mile course.
