Daytona begins installation of new frontstretch seating
Monday morning brought the beginning of the next phase in Daytona International Speedway's $400 million frontstretch renovation project, "Daytona Rising."
The track began installing 10,000 wider and more comfortable grandstand seats in the east end of the track.
The seats are scheduled to be ready for the Coke Zero 400, which will be run the night of July 5 and can be seen on NBC.
The installation comes while the track also dismantles the backstretch grandstand and its iconic press box.
As a result of the project, only 50,000 grandstand seats will be available for the July race weekend. “Daytona Rising" is scheduled to be completed by January 2016, in time for the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the 58th annual DAYTONA 500.
