Simona de Silvestro’s IndyCar catches fire (Update)

UPDATE Simona said after the fire, "It's definitely unfortunate because the car is pretty burnt down, and it's really frustrating that it seems like fire follows me. Maybe this time is 'third time's the charm,' and hopefully the team can get the car back together as quickly as possible. Until now, everything was working fine, and it's just annoying because it's a pretty big setback for us, but I have four great teammates and that will make it easier for us to continue moving forward."

Simona de Silvestro's Andretti-Honda burns to ground

05/12/15 Simona de Silvestro's vehicle caught fire during practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Tuesday afternoon.

The vehicle first started smoking, and then flames were quickly visible. Video from IMS indicated she got out of the car and was standing outside of it while crews put out the flames.

It didn’t appear other cars or drivers were involved.

Andretti Autosport tweeted that she was out of the car and all smiles after the incident
