Arnold Schwarzenegger to Drive Pace Car

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will drive a 2016 Toyota Mirai pace car to kick off the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, June 28.

Schwarzenegger, whose new film Terminator Genisys from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions will be released on July 1, will lead the field of 43 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock cars around the twists and turns of Sonoma Raceway to kick off the 110-lap feature. He will pilot a 2016 Toyota Mirai, a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle that emits only water from its exhaust. It will be the first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle used as a pace car in Sonoma. As Governor, Schwarzenegger championed and established California's Hydrogen Highway, the nation's first network of hydrogen fueling stations.

"I can't wait to drive the pace car at Sonoma," said Schwarzenegger. "It will be an honor to lead these fantastic athletes and champions around the raceway, and on top of it, I get to drive a car that is both powerful and green."

This will mark the first time Schwarzenegger has served as an Official Pace Car Driver at a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event. He will also be recognized during pre-race ceremonies and greet each NASCAR driver on stage during driver introductions.

Tickets are still available for this year’s Toyota/Save Mart 350, which will also mark Jeff Gordon’s final race in Sonoma as a full-time driver.
