Dan Wheldon Memorial Pro-Am Karting Race Field is Set

The Dan Wheldon Memorial Pro-Am Karting Challenge Honoring Justin Wilson is now just days away with 15 professional drivers ready to test their skill at New Castle Motorsports Park on September 19, 2015. The event, in its 3rd year, has become a popular off-season event with the stars and partners of IndyCar as they get a chance to showcase their karting skill and to raise funds to support the Dan Wheldon Foundation. This year is even more poignant for the drivers and partners as the money raised during the event will also support the Wilson Family.

“I feel fortunate to be able to participate in this wonderful event as Dan and Justin were both close friends and competitors of mine," said reigning IndyCar Champion Scott Dixon. “The karting challenge is a great way for the drivers to honor both Dan and Justin but also show our support through the money we raise for the Foundation and the Wilson Family."

There are 15 drivers in this year’s field including: Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden, Will Power, Marco Andretti, James Hinchcliffe, Sage Karam, Ed Carpenter, Ryan Briscoe, Gabby Chaves, Sebastian Saavedra, Jack Harvey, Sarah Fisher, Jay Howard, Matthew Brabham and newly crowned Indy Lights Champion Spencer Pigot.

The Wheldon family will be on hand in support of the event with Dan and Susie’s son, Sebastian, along with Dan’s sister and brother, Holly and Austen, in pacing the field to the green flag. Dan and Susie’s youngest son, Oliver, will also take part in the event by waving the green flag and the checkered flag as the Honorary Flag man.

The event is open to the public and free to attend. The first on-track session is at 10 a.m. Fans can show their support and help in the fundraising by purchasing merchandise onsite and then having their favorite driver autograph their item during the Autograph Session that is held from 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Immediately following the Autograph Session is the race from 12:45 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. All of the professional drivers will drive the last stint of the race.
