NASCAR indefinitely suspends crewmember after altercation

NASCAR announced Wednesday that Brian Allen, a crewmember on the NASCAR Xfinity Series team of driver Brian Scott has been placed on indefinite suspension following an altercation after last Saturday night’s Xfinity Series race at Kentucky Speedway. NASCAR Xfinity series driver Darrell Wallace Jr. and Whitney Scott, the wife of Brian Scott, have been placed on probation through the end of the year for their roles in the post-race altercation.

The incident began after the race when Brian Scott confronted Wallace. The two had made contact on the track on the last restart of the race. Scott said in his post race interview that Wallace came down the track and shut the door on his line through the turn. The contact loosened Scott’s car and he wasn’t able to recover.

“I never felt like he even gave me a chance to get into the corner, and he loosened my right-rear wheel," Scott said.

For his part, Wallace seemed to ignore the incident saying only," Yeah, that was earlier in the race."

What the TV cameras didn’t show as a profanity laced shouting match that occurred in the garage area a few minutes later. That shouting match apparently involved Wallace, Allen and Scott’s wife Whitney. Both drivers carried their verbal confrontation onto social media. Wallace apologized for his post race interview but said he was “blindsided" by Scott, his wife and Allen, the team’s motorcoach driver. Scott in turn accused Wallace of being classless calling his wife the “C" word.

Scott later said on Twitter that he has tried to talk to Wallace and will attempt to do so, this week prior to the Xfinity race at Dover International Speedway. Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney won the race, while Wallace finished ninth and Scott came home in 13th.
