Villeneuve out, Conway in at Venturi

Street racing extraordinaire Mike Conway will be an upgrade for Venturi Formula E.

Mike Conway, 32, will be on the starting grid with the Venturi Formula-E Team in Buenos-Aires on February 4th for the next round of the FIA Formula-E the electric single-seater championship.

"Venturi is a top team in Formula-E so it’s great to be able to join … " said Mike from the Venturi Headquarters in Monaco on Thursday " … the series is innovative and quite unique. It is quickly growing momentum and it’s attractive to a lot of manufacturers to showcase their technologies – so, it’s exciting to be a part of the series."

We are proud to welcome Mike which is a born competitor… said Gilda Pastor, the team founder … he is already involved in several international championships including WEC and IndyCar with several victories.

In recent years the British driver has won on the tracks of Macau, Monaco and Long Beach. Mike has a real affinity for racing on city circuits and tracks that are known for their difficulty, winding turns, close walls and very bumpy surfaces – all of which make him an ideal driver for the FIA Formula-E championship and its downtown circuits. "I have always liked street tracks, they are very challenging compared to a normal circuit. Normally very bumpy and different grip levels throughout the lap so they are a lot of fun!"

Additionally, Mike is a passionate athlete in his personal life, enjoying road and mountain bike cycling. Mike is also a great fit for Venturi’s driver Stephane Sarrazin, who is already a teammate of Mike’s in the WEC series (with Toyota), sharing the same car. "Stephane and I have worked together in other series so already there is a good rapport between us. So everything will be easier for me." The two will both compete in the next and 6th round of the 2016/2017 FIA Formula-E Championship series for the Venturi Team in Buenos Aires.

Mike Conway will be replacing former Venturi driver Jacques Villeneuve. The team and the driver have chosen by mutual agreement to end their collaboration initiated early in Season 2 of the FIA Formula-E electric single-seater championship.
