Teens die after possible mix of racing fuel, Mountain Dew
This is a sad story. Are the youth of America that stupid to ingest Methanol? They say you can't fix stupidity. |
Two Tennessee teens have tragically died after possibly ingesting a mixture of IndyCar racing fuel and Mountain Dew, authorities say.
Logan Stephenson, 16, and his best friend may have consumed that combination last Wednesday night, Greenbrier Police Chief KD Smith told the Daily News.
Stephenson was found unresponsive in his home in Greenbrier on Thursday and pronounced dead at the scene. His friend was taken to the hospital "for an undisclosed ailment."
Foul play is not suspected.
The Tennessean reports that ‘Dewshine’ could be to blame for at least two deaths. So far in Tennessee, there have been four cases involving the consumption of Dewshine, all within the last week.
“They thought they knew what it was, that it was a substitute for alcohol," Dr. Donna Seger told The Tennessean. “They thought they would get the same effects as alcohol, but they weren’t aware of how toxic it was."
"We have received information they may have been drinking this mixture," Chief Smith told The News on Tuesday.
Stephenson's friend, who has not been identified, died on Monday afternoon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Other teens have admitted to drinking the mixture.
"If you know someone who may have consumed a similar mixture the police department urges you to seek medical attention at once," the Greenbrier Police Department said in a statement.
