Alexander Rossi says it is "looking positive" he will return to the F1 grid in 2016 and is holding talks every day.

The American drove for Manor in five grands prix towards the tail end of last season, having previously driven in one practice session for the team and four for Caterham.

"Talks are every day. I think the deadline is really when cars roll in Barcelona in a couple of weeks," Rossi told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Things sometimes get pushed out in this sport and it is something I am used to and hopefully it doesn't go on to much longer. Things are looking positive and hopefully we get it done very soon."

Manor are the only team on the grid yet to confirm their race drivers for 2016 and it is understood no one is currently under contract for either seat.

The team are expected to make major steps forward in 2016 as they debut their first new car since 2014 and switch to the class-leading Mercedes power unit.
