“Tribute to the Can Am” Event to benefit dying Can-Am drivers
"Since 1986, Rick Cole auctions have proven to be the very best in offering classic inventory and wonderful event ambiance in Monterey. The Rick Cole Monterey Auction has brought an entirely new and fresh sales approach through a unique, customer friendly experience.
"Many of the collectors who I know make decisions on purchasing special cars within a few minutes of learning of a particular car's availability," Cole explained. "At this auction the buyer can spend only the time he or she wants or needs to physically inspect the cars that they want to own. They can then go play golf, have a lovely lunch, go out for a wonderful dinner….or take in any number of automotive related events on the Peninsula."
Now you can simply push a button or make a call on your phone to bid and ultimately buy a car. "I call it touch or talk bidding," Cole said proudly, "we've created a whole new way to bid and buy on the fly."
The Tribute to the Can Am – 50th Anniversary, a very special event, is set for Saturday night, August 20th, at the beautiful Monterey Plaza Hotel on Cannery Row in Monterey and will feature a gala dinner followed by a slide show presentation of Can Am history by noted Can Am author/photographer Pete Lyons.
In addition, event-goers will be treated to the first-ever public showing of films of the '71 Mid Ohio and Watkins Glen Can Am races, along with a roundtable discussion featuring a number of the celebrity guests of the era. There will also be an auction of treasured motorsports memorabilia.
A number of well-know authors will also be on hand at the event to autograph their books and event sponsor AutoBooks-Aerobooks will have a display of Can Am-related titles on hand for sale.
Additional sponsors of the event include SVRA, Drivers Talk Radio, the NHRA Museum and Superformance.
Tickets are available at: www.tributetothecanam.com.
Each ticket purchaser will receive a complimentary gift bag, a commemorative event poster, event medallion, special event logo t-shirt.
Only 100 tickets for this exclusive gathering of Can Am aficionados will be available and a portion of proceeds from this event will go to help two well-known professional drivers of the Can Am era who have been having a hard time of it of late: Tony Adamowicz and Charley Hayes.

ABOUT BEING A PARTICIPANT IN THIS DINNER: FROM THE RACING HISTORY PROJECT'S DAVE WOLIN: "To keep this event intimate and very personal only 100 tickets will be sold … total. We want everyone who attends to have the opportunity to meet, honor, and interact with the people who made the Can Am era so indelible in our hearts and minds." Wolin's last two Tribute dinners at the NHRA Wally Parks Museum in Pomona were both limited ticket events and both sold out well in advance of the event date.
