Honda Returns as Official Vehicle of GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma

Honda and Sonoma Raceway have signed a three-year agreement to make the popular auto maker the official vehicle of the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma Verizon IndyCar Series event through 2018, officials announced today.

Honda Performance Development, the North American motorsports arm of American Honda, first entered open-wheel competition in the CART series in 1994. Since then, the manufacturer has earned 11 Indianapolis 500 victories and nine Verizon IndyCar Series championships. Honda has also seen success on the Sonoma Raceway road course, putting six drivers on the podium over the past four events.

Honda, which has served as the official vehicle for Sonoma Raceway’s IndyCar event consecutively since 2012, will provide the raceway with vehicles for pre-race ceremonies and driver introductions, and host an interactive display in the main paddock during race weekend.

"We are very pleased to continue our sponsorship with Sonoma Raceway. The raceway has positioned this event as a complete race and travel destination, and it’s a fantastic place to decide the Verizon IndyCar Series Drivers' Championship. This total package brings significant added value to our sponsorship investment, and the on-site activations, dealer hospitality and fan engagements are great opportunities to enhance our overall Honda Racing Marketing Program," said David Heath, Honda’s senior manager, auto shows and exhibits. “The Sonoma Raceway management is great to work with, and we enjoy the productive partnership we have had over the years."

Honda’s agreement also provides them with a highly-visible presence at the raceway during the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, promotional rights, trackside signage, hospitality and other assets during race weekend.
