Video: IndyCar Series Drivers Visit Slideways Karting Center in Knoxville, Iowa

It was not just another typical Wednesday for INDYCAR drivers Conor Daly and Max Chilton. The two visited Knoxville, Iowa – the Sprint Car Capital of the World – to kick off the lead-up to the Verizon IndyCar Series Iowa Corn 300 on July 10. Daly raced wheel-to-wheel at Slideways Karting Center against McKenna Haase, Davey Heskin, members of the media, Iowa Speedway President Jimmy Small and representatives from Iowa Speedway and Iowa Corn. Daly was victorious in the A-Main following three heat races on the venerable Slideways track.

Daly, driver of the No. 18 Dale Coyne Racing Dallara, and Chilton, driver of the No. 8 Gallagher Chip Ganassi Racing Dallara, also made appearances on Des Moines-area television stations as part of their visit to central Iowa.

Iowa Corn Growers Association President Bob Hemesath and Iowa Corn Promotion Board President Mark Heckman also joined in to race. Iowa Corn is entering its 10th year of sponsorship for the annual INDYCAR race. The renewed agreement continues the second longest entitlement sponsorship in INDYCAR racing.

When Chilton returns to Newton, Iowa, on July 10, he will look to defend his Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires victory from a year ago. Both drivers have visited Casey’s General Stores Victory Lane at “The Fastest Short Track on the Planet". Chilton won last year and Daly was victorious in the 2010 Star Mazda race at Iowa Speedway.

Following the event at Slideways Karting Center, Daly made a stop at Knoxville Raceway and was shown around by McKenna Haase. Haase is the only female driver to win a feature race at Knoxville Raceway. She also won the 305 main last Saturday night.

Next up for the “Fastest Short Track on the Planet" is the ARCA Racing Series 150 presented by Casey’s General Stores and Verizon IndyCar Series Iowa Corn 300 July 9-10. LOCASH, known for their No. 1 single “I Love This Life," will be the second act in the NAPA Auto Parts Concert Series this summer. LOCASH will keep fans cheering following the conclusion of the ARCA Racing Series 150 presented by Casey’s General Stores on Saturday, July 9. The duo will hit the Pork Party Pavilion, overlooking Turn 4,
