Nelson Piquet Jr will make his NASCAR return on 13 August 2016, when he joins Biagi-DenBeste Racing to take on the Mid-Ohio 200 Xfinity Series road course race.
Piquet Jr was a regular on the NASCAR scene between 2010-2014, during which time he became the first Brazilian to visit Victory Lane in a top tier NASCAR category, when he won the Nationwide Series race at Road America in 2012. He collected a further four victories in the Truck and Nationwide Series and 30 top-ten finishes. His most recent NASCAR event was at the Watkins Glen Sprint Cup in August 2014. He last raced at Mid-Ohio in the Turner Motorsports Nationwide Series team in 2013, qualifying in fifth position.
Since his last NASCAR outing, Piquet Jr has been competing globally in the FIA Formula E Championship, the series in which he took the World Championship title in 2015. He has also competed in the World Endurance Championship, the highlight of which was a Winner in Class victory at the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours, and he has been a race winner in the Global Rally Championship.
Commenting on his NASCAR return, Piquet Jr said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be racing in Mid-Ohio next month. NASCAR has been a huge part of my career and it is one of the best championships I’ve ever raced in. My first top tier NASCAR victory was at a road course, at Road America, and so I’m grateful to Biagi-DenBeste for giving me another road course opportunity. The Xfinity series is seriously competitive so I’m looking forward to getting there and seeing what we can do."
