NASCAR Hands out penalties to Richmond cheaters

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Furniture Row Racing, driver Martin Truex Jr. and crew chief Cole Pearn have been penalized by NASCAR for violations discovered during post-race laser inspection Sept. 10 at Richmond (Va.) Int’l Raceway.

The P2 penalty resulted in Pearn being fined $15,000 and the team docked 10 owner and driver points. The points, however, were deducted prior to the standings being reset for the beginning of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.

Additionally, the No. 7 car of Regan Smith was given a written warning and a loss of 15 minutes of practice time for failing LIS three times pre-qualifying.

Finally, the No. 18 of Kyle Busch, the No. 16 of Greg Biffle, the No. 22 of Joey Logano and the No. 78 of Truex — were given written warnings for twice failing LIS pre-qualifying.
