Kyle Busch rips Goodyear tires after flats, wreck

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Kyle Busch can't seem to shake his problems with Goodyear.

For the second time this year and the second consecutive Bristol race, Busch found himself in the garage after tire problems. He twice had flats Monday at Bristol Motor Speedway, the second one ending his day with a crash on Lap 384 of the Food City 500.

"I just really have no idea why the fastest car out there keeps blowing a tire," Busch said after his 35th-place finish in the rain-delayed NASCAR Cup race. "We were coming through the field twice. If people want to see racing and people coming from the back to the front, you've got to have tires that can last."

A Goodyear representative said it was a bead issue on both of Busch's tires Monday. Goodyear ruled out that the failures were from melted beads but couldn't make a determination of the exact cause. If the tires didn't fail because of heat, the next logical explanation would be loads.

Busch said his Joe Gibbs Racing team played it conservatively because of its past issues at Bristol. While his teammates had problems at Bristol in August, only Busch seemed to have problems Monday. No other drivers experienced a similar issue.

Now 11th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup standings, the frustrated Busch said he wouldn't try to get an explanation from Goodyear. He wrecked in the Daytona 500 after a tire went flat — a tire that Goodyear said either had a problem when it was put on the car or was cut by debris.

"We had our issues, and we were trying to march our way back up towards the front and get there and thought we were doing a good job of that and trying to be conservative with the tires because obviously they can't make it through a full distance for us for some reason," Busch said.
