FOX NASCAR QUOTES

Note: For FOX NASCAR analysts’ reaction Tuesday to the announcement Dale Earnhardt Jr. will retire at the end of the 2017 season, please click HERE and HERE.

On Jimmie Johnson winning two consecutive races:

“That’s a big, big win. Bristol hasn’t been one of his best tracks. That’s just how good he and that No. 48 team are … Jimmie Johnson might not have been in the script at Bristol, but he was in the hunt all day long, lurking. That team is so strong. When you get them in a position like this, and you give them confidence, like after the win at Texas, they don’t make many mistakes. They’ve been pushing hard and making some mistakes up until Texas, but not at Bristol. What did they do? They’re so good that they forced others, like (Martin) Truex Jr. and (Kyle) Larson to make mistakes and give them that shot at going out there and getting the win."

–Jeff Gordon, FOX NASCAR analyst

On how close Clint Bowyer is to winning a race:

“He and Mike Bugarewicz have gotten better and better every week. He could win Richmond. He runs great there and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see the No. 14 in Victory Lane."

–Darrell Waltrip, FOX NASCAR analyst

On Joe Gibbs Racing remaining winless headed into Richmond:

“Matt Kenseth really needed that (fourth-place finish at Bristol) and so did Joe Gibbs Racing. They were so good at Richmond last year. They dominated. They’ve been good on the short tracks. They’ve got a little bit of work to do on the mile-and-a-halfs, but look for them to be the dominant team this week at Richmond."

–Jeff Gordon, FOX NASCAR analyst

On whether Stewart-Haas Racing is suffering a bit from the transition from Chevrolet to Ford, particularly with the No. 4 team:

“You can’t expect to go through as big a change as they did by switching manufacturers and not have some growing pains. It’s incredible they were able to win at Daytona, and Harvick was dominant, as usual, in Atlanta. But now they’re showing some of the struggles I expected to see, particularly the No. 4 team. I’m using the No. 4 car as a gauge because they were so dominant and fast with Chevrolet. I don’t see them quite there yet, although they are improving every week. But Clint Bowyer is over-performing and probably is the best Stewart-Haas Racing team as a whole. Clint is a great driver but the No. 14 team has struggled the past few years, and he struggled at another team. The No. 14 team is the glue keeping SHR going and (the No. 4 team) probably is feeding off the No. 14 car until the No. 4 car gets back to its dominant form. I expect to see that in the second half of the season."
