Last Weekend TV Ratings (Update)

UPDATE A reader asks, Dear AR1.com, you reported (below) that last year's IndyCar TV rating at Road America was a 0.44 and hence this year's rating was down 16%. However, I read elsewhere that last year the rating was a 0.33 and hence this year's rating was actually an increase. Can you please clarify? Thank you. Judy DeMarco, NJ

Dear Judy, Not sure where you read 0.33, but in fact the TV rating for Road America for 2016 was a 0.44 so once again NBCSN has failed IndyCar. The fact that only 110,000 18-49 year olds were tuned in is especially troubling as sponsors look hard at this age group because they do the most buying of a sponsor's product. Whereas F1's average fan age is decreasing, IndyCar and NASCAR is increasing. But at least NASCAR can still deliver near 1 million viewers in the all important 18-49 age group, but that number is declining. Mark C.

06/27/17 FS1 on Sunday afternoon drew a 1.9 overnight for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race from Sonoma Raceway, down 14% from a 2.2 last year. The 1.9 also is down 21% from FS1's 2.4 overnight in 2015. There were 3.240 million viewers.

The IndyCar race from Road America on NBCSN received a 0.37 rating, down 16% from a 0.44 rating in 2016. However, the number of viewers were up 25%. In the all-important 18-49 year old age category, only 110,000 viewers were tuned in.
