Who will replace Martin?

UPDATE #2 Sterling Marlin is having discussions with Jack Roush about the possibility of replacing Mark Martin next year in the #6 Ford. Gaston Gazette 06/05/05 Roush Racing president Geoff Smith said Sunday NASCAR Busch Series rookie Jon Wood has "some marketing momentum" and a viable candidate to replace veteran Mark Martin in Roush's No. 6 Fords next season. Wood, 23, remains under contract with Roush but has been on loan to ST Motorsports' No. 47 Ford team in the Busch series this year.

Wood has long been considered a possible driver for the Wood Brothers' No. 21 Ford Nextel Cup team, which is co-owned by his father, Eddie Wood. Other Cup teams have also inquired about whether Wood was available to be tested in a Cup car this season.

"Here is a guy who ran head-to-head (in the Truck series) with Carl Edwards and look how well Carl Edwards has turned out," Smith said. "We've had a chance to observe him in Cup test sessions with the Wood Brothers and he was very good in those test sessions. Of course, he has done as well as or better than anyone has done in the No. 47 car in the last 10 years, including Jimmie Johnson being in that ride." That's Racin

06/05/05 The driver who would be Mark Martin's first choice to replace him as driver of the No. 6 Ford will not be in the car after Martin retires from full-time competition at the end of this season. "I'll tell you exactly who I would put in the No. 6 car in a heartbeat," Martin said. "Joe Logano turned 15 a few days ago, and if NASCAR would let me I would make Jack Roush let us put him in the 6 car. He's already ready. He's the man." Martin has been singing Logano's praises since early this year. Logano can't race in the Nextel Cup, Busch or Truck series until he's 18, but he has already made his debut in the Hooters Pro Cup series. "I am absolutely 100 percent positive, without a doubt, that he can be one of the greatest who ever raced in NASCAR," Martin said. Charlotte Observer
