Longer pit stops recommended

NASCAR would like to change the gas-filler system on its Nextel Cup cars to slow pit stops considerably next season, perhaps slowing the stops – currently around 12 seconds for top crews – to as long as 17 seconds, according to some teams. That would supposedly eliminate the need for super-athletic pit-crew men.

One of NASCAR's goals over the next few years is apparently to cut the size of team rosters so that a car owner can be competitive with about 60 crewmen. Winston-Salem Journal
