Aitken secures Formula 2 ride with ART GP

Renault junior driver Jack Aitken will move up to Formula 2 with French ART Grand Prix this season.

Aitken finished runner-up to Mercedes protege George Russell in GP3 last season, taking a solitary victory at the Hungaroring.

Aitken tested a Formula 2 car with ART in the post-season gathering at the Yas Marina Circuit and was quick enough, and his check large enough, to move up to F2 year.

"I am delighted to sign with ART GP for another year, taking on the challenge of F2," said Aitken.

"I have made a lot of friends here, and I have the confidence in them and myself that we can have an even better season together this year.

"We will aim high, and push hard. Rookie or not, I want to be challenging at the front like always."

Russell is expected to partner Aitken at ART this year, with an announcement due at a later date.
