Zolder race to change dates
02/25/07 This rumor looks set to move to 'fact' on March 8th. This Belgian Pitstop.tv article says that the Zolder Champ Car race is not yet on the FIA calendar, but should be approved at the March 8th FIA World Council meeting. The article says that the RACB, the local arm of the FIA, asked the promoter and Champ Car to move the race up two weeks from September 9th to August 26th because it was too close to the September 16th F1 race in Spa, Belgium. RACB president Michel Jodogne denies Bernie Ecclestone forced the change. Race promoter Meindert van Buuren expresses confidence the race date of August 26th will be approved. We had already shown the date change on our 2007 Champ Car calendar when we first heard about this rumor.
02/16/07 Don't be surprised if the Champ Car race at Zolder, originally scheduled for September 9th (One week after Assen), isn't moved to one week before Assen on August 26th. Apparently the FIA asked the race to be moved because it was too close to the F1 race in Spa, Belgium on September 16th. We never could understand why they would put the race so close to Spa. This of course leaves an even bigger hole in the 2007 Champ Car schedule between the Europe races and the Australia race. We hear Champ Car may be trying to plug that hole with another race, possibly at Road Atlanta. They should work a deal to run with ALMS during the Petit LeMans weekend October 6-7. The ALMS race is on Saturday so it would make sense to run a Champ Car race on Sunday that same weekend. Wait, that makes too much sense so it won't happen.
