Kvapil likely to run Busch race for ailing Wood

Travis Kvapil likely will replace the ailing Jon Wood in the No. 47 Wood Brothers/JTG Racing car for the Dover 200 Busch Series race Saturday at Dover International Speedway. Wood, suffering from severe headaches, missed the second practice session Friday. Mark Martin practiced the car, but having already run the truck race Friday, he didn’t want to pull triple-duty.

So team officials have tapped Kvapil, a Roush Fenway Racing driver in the trucks who also has Busch and Cup experience, to be on standby. Team co-owner Tad Geschickter was not optimistic Friday night that Wood, who has struggled this year and sits 22nd in points, would be ready for the 3 p.m. race Saturday. Wood] is just having real bad headaches," Geshchickter said. “Travis Kvapil is going to run it. … He’s a Ford guy and Jack [Roush] is a good friend to help us out and be on standby."

If Wood does not get better, Kvapil will qualify the car Saturday morning and then race it in the afternoon. Scene Daily
