Frustrated Button to quit?

(GMM) Despite denying rumors of a switch to Renault, British driver Jenson Button has refused to rule out simply quitting formula one if he cannot move closer to the front of the grid in the near future.

The 27-year-old has a long-term contract with Honda, which with its uncompetitive RA107 single seater has failed to score more than a single point so far this season.

Brackley based Honda insists it is now making strides back to form with a heavily updated car, but for the first time in 2007 Button failed to make it through even the initial 'Q1' qualifying cut at Silverstone last weekend.

Honda's race pace is making obvious signs of improvement "but it needs to be a hell of a lot better still," Button, who won his first grand prix after more than 100 attempts in Hungary last year, admitted to the Mail on Sunday.

He continued: "There will come a time when I get bored of finishing eighth.

"I'm in this sport to win and I won't want to keep on finishing eighth at best, which is what I've achieved this season with Honda.

"To be honest, I'd find it too tough to handle. If this continues then maybe in a couple of years I'll just call it a day and go and find something else to do."

Button, however, admitted that he should not let his own frustration at still not having a title-contending car in his eighth season on the grid demotivated the team.

"Talking about giving up is very negative. The positive outlook is to say we can start winning races again next season and my confidence in my ability remains high," he added.
