Acura threatens ALMS pullout

Acura has pulled back on its plans to move up from LMP2 to LMP1 in the ALMS because the rules changes implemented cause instability and uncertainty. The new rules favor "green" racing and require closed cockpit cars and less imaginative aerodynamics because the cars are to take their cues from road cars.

"Unfortunately, this causes us to reassess our plans for the future," said Acura and Honda race boss Robert Clarke. "When you convince a company like Acura to go racing, it is with a plan for x number of years. To have the game changed after you have sold it to the company board could be very damaging.

"The real danger is this creates an opportunity for management and the board to say, 'Screw it, we want out.' Rule changes normally add expense."
