Ferrari eyes Vettel
Sebastian Vettel was delighted with his Toro Rosso’s handling in Friday’s practice at Silverstone, where the German youngster once again showed a very fast pace against the giants of the sport. Vettel was a competitive seventh fastest in the morning session and improved to sixth in the afternoon, just 0.8s off the benchmark set by McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen. And while he cautioned against reading too much into the headline times, Vettel admitted the initial signs were very positive for STR.
The fact that he is starting to outpace Sebastien Bourdais at every event now, this weekend by a wide margin has resulted in Ferrari reportedly taking a keen interest in signing the Austrian youngster.
However, Vettel is taking a modest view.
“Today we had a very productive session, ending up with clear answers on all the things we had on our test list," he said. Therefore we can be quite happy, but now we must analyze what the others did to get a better idea of how quick we are…or how slow!
“I think we are in a good shape, the balance feels good and I’m happy with that."
