10/13/08 Autosport reports that Adrian Campos has decided to step down as team principal of the GP2 squad and sell his stake in the Spanish outfit.
The former grand prix driver, whose GP2 outfit won the teams' title this season, has sold his stake in the team to Alejandro Agag, who was already the majority stake holder and who now owns 100% of the team.
Campos will now focus on his F3 team and on another project he is yet to reveal details about, but could be a Spanish F1 team.
"I think it's the right time to think about other projects that I have had in mind for a long time," said Campos.
"I will continue with the F3 team, that I have left aside a bit over these years, and I will start another project that excites me, one which I have a lot of hopes for the future and that I hope to make public very soon.
"I leave the team in the best hands because I have an assurance for continuity from Alejandro and I'm sure that he will do as well as I may have done during these years."
[AutoRacing1.com perspective: We wouldn't be surprised if his next step is F1. One of his drivers in GP2 in the past few years, including 2008, was Vitaly Petrov (a Russian driver with almost unlimited funds), who won in GP2 last year and this year.]
The team's sponsor in the past two years has been Barwa (http://www.barwa.com.qa/ and http://www.barwa.com.qa/english/eng.aspx), A Qatar based, innovative, real estate conglomerate (please see Barwa's website).
Another Campos sponsor is: Comunidad Valenciana, the Valencian Community http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valencian_Community, a local authority backing the team heavily for the last couple of years.
Adrian Campos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Campos. His team is already called Campos Grand Prix http://www.camposgrandprix.com/?idioma=uk&t=1, which makes you wonder……
09/30/08 (GMM) Adrian Campos has taken the next step to forming a Spanish formula one team, the country's press reports.
The national El Mundo newspaper claims that the former Minardi driver, who already co-owns a GP2 team with Alejandro Agag, has devised multi-million euro plans to build a wind tunnel "as the next step towards F1".
The project, comprising a 40 per cent scale wind tunnel and seven-poster rig, is to be based in Alzira, located in the Valencia province.
07/07/08 (GMM) GP2 team boss Adrian Campos is interested in buying the assets of the defunct formula one team Super Aguri.
It emerged at the weekend that the assets of the Japanese team, including cars and transporters, will be auctioned on July 31.
It is often suggested that Campos, and fellow Spaniard Alejandro Agag, want to launch a Spanish F1 foray, and were even linked with Super Aguri prior to its collapse.
Campos confirmed to GPWeek that he held talks about buying Super Aguri's assets prior to the announcement about the auction.
"It's true I was there to talk with them about buying the assets. That's all for the moment," he said.
