USF1 looking at Kyle Busch?

UPDATE #2 This evening on Florida's SunSports network, a regional network sports channel owned and operated by Brighthouse Communications, Kyle Busch was featured and was interviewed and asked a couple of interesting questions. Though we do not have a transcript of the interview, we will paraphrase his responses here.

Asked about rumors about F1 and the USF1 team, Kyle said that if it were to happen, it would have to happen now. He said that he has talked to Montoya and Scott Speed about it quite a bit, and that if he were to do it, he needs to do it now, because he is still young enough to take the "beating" (his word for it) that an F1 car puts on your body. He said it is a much more difficult kind of racing, and a completely different culture and lifestyle that he would have to adapt to.

He was also asked about one thing he would change about the Sprint Cup Series right now, and he did not even hesitate to say he would completely get rid of the current car. He said that it does not showcase the driver, and that a decent driver with a team that hits the setup is going to run up front.

So basically, he just said that its more about the car than the driver, and that F1 is the top of the sport. Its nice to hear that directly from a NASCAR driver.

We could be wrong, but we would say that despite being a stock car driver, we think Kyle Busch is one of those rare talents that can be fast in anything with a steering wheel, pedals and tires. It would be huge for the USA and F1 to put him in F1. We say give him a test, and if he is close, give him a shot.

10/26/09 (GMM) A NASCAR team spokesman has played down reports linking the American driver Kyle Busch with a move in 2011 to the new formula one outfit USF1.

USF1 sporting director Peter Windsor revealed last week that he has already met with the 24-year-old's business team, and that Busch should watch USF1's progress in 2010 before later making a decision about whether to switch codes.

Busch is under lucrative contract to Joe Gibbs Racing until the end of next year, and a team spokesman said of the USF1 speculation: "There's nothing to it.

"What was said (in Las Vegas) is all that needs to be said," the spokesman is quoted as saying by Autoweek.

The Las Vegas reference is to comments Busch made about USF1 earlier this year.

"It's definitely something I wouldn't shoot down," he said. "If I could win a championship in the next two or three years I wouldn't mind doing (F1) for a few years."

10/22/09 We have whispered before that Kyle Busch's name has been bounced around for a possible seat at USF1. Now the notion has been confirmed by management stating that they would be interested in giving him a test. Since Busch's management did not rule anything out, could there be something to this? Since both sides are not denying it, we will put this one up to strong…just to make things interesting…
