USF1 picks test driver

UPDATE A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1.com, This is getting embarrassing. A 42 year old test driver? First USF1 very publically announced a few months ago that it turned down several experienced open wheel European buy a ride drivers because it was ‘only interested in hiring the best professional driver’ to pair with a young proven open wheel American. Then it turns out they are trying to sign an South American driver with very limited open wheel experience but backers able to pay north of ten million dollars for a seat.

Now, if this rumor turns out to be true, they are going to accept a check from a 42 year old amateur driver who’s claim to fame according to his web site is a “5th Place at IRL Orlando" in 2000. A quick check with the official IRL web site does have Mr. Jonsson competing in the IRL at Orlando in 2000 however the IRL web site lists him as starting 21st and finishing 12th, two laps down.

Nic Jonsson

The ‘news’ associated with USF1 keep getting stranger and stranger. Please ask USF1 not to embarrass our great nation, do it right or don’t do it at all. Paul Greensman, Portland, Oregon
