Fauzy to race with Lotus in 2010

UPDATE (GMM) Lotus team boss Tony Fernandes on Friday refused to confirm speculation Fairuz Fauzy will race a green T127 sometime in 2010.

After the Malaysian 27-year-old tested Heikki Kovalainen's car during initial Friday practice at Sepang, he told BBC radio that Fernandes has hinted he might race later this season.

"I think we don't think too far ahead," Fernandes said when asked by reporters about Fauzy's plans.

"Today (the plan) was to give Fairuz a chance at testing in his home circuit. As for the future we are not sure.

"We will have to wait and see but all I can confirm was that it was for Malaysia only at this point," the Malaysian businessman added.

04/02/10 (GMM) According to a murmur sweeping the Sepang media centre during Friday's second practice session, Fairuz Fauzy could race a Lotus later in 2010.

After practicing in Heikki Kovalainen's green T127 on Friday morning, the 27-year-old Malaysian apparently told a reporter that team boss Tony Fernandes has hinted that he might be given a chance to race at some point this season.

Finn Kovalainen's teammate is fellow grand prix winner Jarno Trulli.

A few days ago, Fernandes said he opted to pay Kovalainen and Trulli this year, rather than collect a couple of checks from pay-drivers.

"If you want to be serious about this sport then you've got to have the best drivers you can afford and you can get," he said.

"It's a short term thing to get a check," Fernandes added.

Meanwhile, Red Bull's reliability woes continue in Malaysia, with Mark Webber abandoning his RB6 in a gravel trap after experiencing a sudden loss of power during second Friday practice.
