Carlin in running for F1’s final grid spot

UPDATE This rumor is downgraded to 'false.' British F3 champions Carlin have no plans to enter the 2011 Formula 1 World Championship contrary to reports in the international media today. The Hampshire based squad, who currently lead the British F3 and Formula Renault 3.5 championships, as well as competing in the inaugural GP3 Series, have not submitted an application to be part of the Formula 1 grid in 2011.

Carlin’s Racing Director Trevor Carlin said, “While F1 may be a long-term goal for the team, we have not submitted an application for the 2011 season, nor are we in any position to do so. At the moment we are 100 per cent focused on our current programs and continue to put all our efforts into winning championships and races in the junior categories."

06/18/10 (GMM) Another team reportedly in the running to become F1's 13th team in 2011 is Carlin.

Headed by former Jordan boss Trevor Carlin, the outfit is the most successful in the history of British F3, and also races in GP3 and the Renault World Series.

Since 2007, Carlin has been based at Brabham's old F1 factory in Surrey, featuring a wind tunnel, and late last year the team was bought by Grahame Chilton.

Finland's Turun Sanomat said the team, alongside Epsilon Euskadi and ART, is in the running for the 2011 spot made vacant by the demise of USF1.
