The Shell V-Power Racing Team's brand-new-for-2019 Ford Mustangs have hit the track for the first time today, in an open test day at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, south of Melbourne.

The striking red, white and yellow Mustangs are being driven by defending Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin and his teammate Fabian Coulthard in their opening salvo on the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

Introduced after a 12-month joint development program between the Shell V-Power Racing Team, Ford Performance and Ford’s Asia-Pacific design studio, the Mustang is Ford’s latest in an historic line of Australian Touring Car entries.

Scott McLaughlin has taken an early liking to his brand new Shell V-Power Ford Mustang, jumping out of the blocks to record the quickest lap time in the opening hour of today's Test Day at Phillip Island.

The reigning Virgin Australia Supercars Champion held the quickest lap time over the opening hour of testing, his lap time of 1.31.0656 then eclipsed in the second hour by Holden trio David Reynolds, Scott Pye and Anton De Pasquale.

McLaughlin said after his first stint behind the wheel that there's a number of differences between the Falcon and Mustang that he will need to adjust to as he looks to defend his Supercars crown.
