Will Randy Bernard quit?

A reader writes, Dear AR1.com, What is the update from IndyCar and the Vegas finale? We're inside of two months and there has been no announcement as far as who the five will be going for the $5 million and the overall talk has died down even inside the IndyCar paddock. This has the makings of a complete disaster! And with the Loudon results hanging in the balance, Penske or Ganassi will not take on another car for the race if a championship is on the line. I like Randy's energy, but this along with forcing the new car on every owner in this economy, and the fact that they can't increase TV numbers is very disturbing. Will he actually eat his words and quit if IndyCar doesn't get a 0.8 or whatever he was quoted as saying? Brandon Stevens

Dear Brandon, I suspect Randy is waiting to see what NASCAR drivers make the Chase and which ones will be available to race in Vegas before announcing the five drivers. Rest assured he is not going to get all the big names he was hoping for, and the only NASCAR driver good enough to possibly win the race would be Juan Montoya. In fact the France family is not going to let their big name drivers help IndyCar succeed. They will read them the riot act, like "boy, you want to continue racing in NASCAR? Because if you run that race and help IndyCar gain publicity using your star status that we built for you, you may as well stay over there 'cause you ain't welcome here no more." Will Randy quit if he does not beat the 0.8 TV rating on ABC? I doubt it. Mark C.
