Sato Fastest in Indy 500 Test - Rookie Session Starts at 5:45 pm (2nd Update)

04/24/19 The Rookie session has just started at 5:45 pm. But before the first lap was completed, the McLaren car just slowed and caused the first yellow of the session. It has been reported that the reason is a low battery, so hopefully nothing else is wrong. This number 66 car was built in England and is running on the oval for the first time.

04/24/19 Takuma Sato, driver of the number 30 for Rahal, Letterman, Lanigan, put in the fastest speed today in the one day Oval test, after a 20 minute delay in the session due to Max Chilton, driving the number 59 for Carlin, losing an engine 50 minutes into the session.

Ed Carpenter, owner of Ed Carpenter Racing, stayed in the second spot on the chart most of the session. Carpenter is the only owner/driver of an IndyCar team. No stranger to Indy, Carpenter has been on the pole for three 500s. In 2018, Carpenter had his best 500 finish of second after starting on the pole.

Rain ended the rescheduled session at 5:03 pm.

Moisture is delaying the rookie session at 5:30 pm.
