Allmendinger can’t cut the mustard in IndyCar
A.J. Allmendinger may not be returning to IndyCar after an embarrassing outing in Detroit. Once you drive a taxicab your reflexes are dulled and most drivers cannot make the transition back. He crashed at the start of both races at Belle Isle Park. Once a taxicab driver, always a taxicab driver.
And Allmendinger doesn’t sound like a race car driver planning to return to the IndyCar Series.
“I haven’t even talked to Roger (Penske) about that," Allmendinger said today at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, site of this weekend’s Sprint Cup Series event, the last race before the July 28 Brickyard 400.
Asked if he planned to talk to Penske about additional IndyCar races, Allmendinger said: “Probably not."
Allmendinger has competed in five IndyCar races for Team Penske, the most recent being the doubleheader in Detroit last month.
Allmendinger will be making his ninth start of the Sprint Cup taxicab season this weekend. He’s driving the No. 51 Chevrolet of Phoenix Racing.
