IndyCar's route to a cockpit protection system has largely played out behind the scenes until it announced it will use an aeroscreen designed by Red Bull Technologies in 2020.
An early version of the aeroscreen, pictured below, appeared during the 2016 Formula 1 season, when Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo tested the device during the Russian Grand Prix weekend, before F1 then opted for the halo.
Edd Straw and Tom Errington join Glenn Freeman to discuss how IndyCar arrived at the aeroscreen, and what its introduction could mean for motorsport safety going forward.
