Chicagoland Speedway Xfinity Race Could replace Pocono IndyCar race
Have we seen the last IndyCar race at Pocono? |
Could the money-losing Pocono IndyCar race be replaced by NASCAR's 2nd-tier Xfinity Series? If rumors are to be believed, Chicagoland Speedway reportedly will lose its standalone Xfinity event in 2016.
Pocono Raceway, less than two hours from Xfinity parent Comcast Corp. HQ, is expected to add an Xfinity race. The track currently hosts a two NASCAR weekends, one in June and one in August. Pocono does not want to pay the sanction fee IndyCar wants because it cannot make money given IndyCar's miniscule fan base. Rumor is that Pocono could replace the IndyCar weekend in late August with the Xfinity Series standalone race.
