IndyCar and Grand-Am scenes from Barber - Saturday

Ryan Hunter-Reay earned his first Verizon P1 Award of the 2013 season by capturing the pole position for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on April 7. The reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion recorded a lap of 1:07.0871 in the No. 1 DHL Chevrolet to earn his third pole of his Indy car career. In Grand-Am Max Angelelli drove the No. Corvette to victory over the No. 99 Gainsco Corvette.
Angelelli Holds Off Gurney, Wins Porsche 250
  Grand-Am at Barber
After seven drivers took turns running up front in Saturday’s Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park, Max Angelelli found himself in the lead with 45 minutes remaining in the third race of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season. The veteran never let up, leading the final 33 laps around the 2.3-mile circuit to post his 22nd Daytona Prototype victory in the No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette DP.
Grand-Am and IMSA announce DTM deal
  Organizations aligned toward common goal of American version of DTM
Exploring an opportunity that could additionally change the face, and the future, of road racing, GRAND-AM Road Racing and the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) tonight announced a license and cooperation agreement with the Internationale Tourenwagen-Rennen (ITR e.V.), which administers DTM racing. The collective goal is a North American version of DTM, the popular German touring car series.

  GRAND-AM of The Americas draws two-day attendance of 26,648
The Red Dragon returned to Victory Lane in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series after a long absence Saturday. Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney won the GRAND-AM of The Americas Presented by GAINSCO and TOTAL in their No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Corvette DP in an unpredictable race on the 3.4-mile Circuit Of The Americas.
Fogarty wins inaugural COTA Grand-Am pole

Jon Fogarty showed why he is the top qualifier in GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series history on Friday, waiting until his final lap to capture the TOTAL Pole Award for Saturday’s GRAND-AM of The Americas presented by GAINSCO and TOTAL. After hanging back for much of Friday’s 15-minute Daytona Prototype qualifying session, Fogarty unleashed the Dallas-based No. 99 “Red Dragon” GAINSCO Auto Insurance Corvette DP with a lap of 2:00.179.
Class acts at the 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona

The 51st Rolex 24 At Daytona justified the race’s reputation as one of motor sport’s truly great endurance competitions. In the final hours of the 2013 contest a clutch of cars had the chance to take the honors in both DP (prototype) and GT (touring) classes. Ultimately it came down to who had the best-prepared car, executed the most effective race strategy and above all was the most determined. In DP, it was the Chip Ganassi Racing #01 BMW Riley that came out on top, while in GT the #24 R8 of Audi Sport Customer Racing/AJR prevailed. In the new GX class, #16 Napleton Racing Porsche Cayman crushed its opposition.
Ganassi 01 BMW wins Rolex 24, Pruett ties Haywood

Scott Pruett tied Hurley Haywood’s record with his fifth overall victory in the 51st Rolex 24 Daytona on Sunday. Juan Pablo Montoya crossed the finish line in the No. 01 TELMEX/Target Chip Ganassi Racing BMW/Riley 21.922 seconds ahead of Max Angelelli and the No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette DP. Both Montoya and Angelelli pitted for late splashes of fuel as the No. 01 completed a dominating day-to-night-to-day run. Pruett and Montoya won with Memo Rojas and Charlie Kimball. Alex Job Racing gave Audi its first victory in the Rolex 24
Rolex 24 at Daytona Preview

With sunset just before 18:00 and sunrise close to 07:15 the following day at this time of year in Florida, night is a serious component of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. With the race start at 15:30 EST on Saturday, when the sun crests the eastern horizon of Daytona Beach on the Sunday morning the drivers will have spent over three-quarters of their race to that point in the dark. A third of the total race time is still to be run.
Pruett puts Ganassi BMW on pole for Rolex 24

Scott Pruett’s drive for a record-tying fifth overall victory in the Rolex 24 At Daytona could not have a better start. The five-time Daytona Prototype champion in the Rolex Sports Car Series won the TOTAL Pole Award on Thursday as the fastest qualifier for the opening race of the 2013 season. Pruett, in the No. 01 TELMEX/Target Chip Ganassi Racing BMW/Riley, earned the pole with a lap of 1:40.553 (127.455 mph).
Spirit of Daytona wins at Laguna Seca

For Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato, the GRAND-AM Rolex Series Continental Tire Sports Car Festival Powered by Mazda was a battle that enabled them to win the season-long war for the Rolex Series GT championship. For Richard Westbrook and Antonio Garcia, Sunday’s race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca represented their Rolex Series-leading third Daytona Prototype victory of the season.

Richard Westbrook and Antonio Garcia raced their series-leading third Daytona Prototype class victory of the Grand-Am Rolex Series season Sunday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.  Garcia, in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP, beat Alex Gurney's No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Corvette DP by 3.878 seconds.  Our Bob Heathcote was there to capture all the action in these photos.
GRAND-AM and ALMS Announce Historic Merger
  Grand-Am buys out ALMS
The most significant development in the history of sports car racing in North America was announced today, with plans for a landmark merger of GRAND-AM Road Racing and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) unveiled at Daytona International Speedway. Under terms of the merger, the following entities will combine with GRAND-AM: the American Le Mans Series; the International Motor Sports Association, which sanctions ALMS events; the Road Atlanta race track facility in Braselton, Ga.; the Chateau Elan Hotel and Conference Center in Sebring, Fla.; and Sebring International Raceway.
